Patterson Construction works closely with our team, clients, and supply chain on all aspects of sustainability — making environmental responsibility integral to how we plan, manage, and deliver every project.
We have committed to ambitious targets to achieve Net Zero Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 2040 — ten years ahead of the UK Government's target date. As a business with over 40 years of construction experience across London, we understand the direct impact our operations have on the built and natural environment. From groundworks to full main contracting, we actively pursue low-carbon methods, sustainable materials, and responsible site management on every scheme we deliver.
We are committed to publishing our Net Zero Strategy annually, benchmarking our progress against UK Government targets and industry standards. We work with third-party verifiers to ensure transparent measurement and reporting of our GHG emissions across all sites, offices, and operations — holding ourselves accountable to our 2040 commitment.
We scrutinise the embodied carbon within our supply chains and prioritise low-carbon alternatives wherever possible. All suppliers and subcontractors must meet our minimum environmental standards and adhere to Patterson Construction's Environmental & Sustainability terms and conditions. We view our supply chain as partners in achieving our net zero goals, not just contractors.
We source energy from renewable providers and actively work to reduce consumption across all our sites. Sub-metering is used to monitor, record, and report on electricity and water usage throughout our projects. We support the transition to electric plant and vehicles, and regularly review site logistics to minimise unnecessary fuel use and emissions.
Our leadership team takes direct responsibility for our sustainability targets, with environmental training and site-level inspections in place on every project. For projects of significant scale, we carry out Whole Life Carbon Assessments to support sector-wide ambitions to reduce GHG emissions by 2030, using RICS Standards as our benchmark.
We report all sources of environmental impact within our operational control and seek opportunities to enhance biodiversity on and around our construction sites. Our project teams are trained to identify and act on environmental risks, from soil and groundwater protection during groundworks to waste reduction throughout the build process.

We honour our duty of care under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all related regulations — ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every person on our sites.
Construction is a high-risk industry, and we treat that responsibility with the seriousness it demands. Every member of the Patterson team is fully trained and competent for their role. We hold accreditations with CHAS, SafeContractor, and Constructionline, and regularly benchmark our safety performance against industry best practice.
We also recognise that health extends beyond physical safety. The pressures of construction work and everyday life can affect all of us. That's why we have trained Mental Health First Aiders within our team, available to provide confidential support whenever it's needed. We are proud to support the Lighthouse Club — a dedicated charity providing mental health, financial, and wellbeing assistance to those working in construction.
