The redevelopment of 56 Redchurch Street formed a key phase in the expansion of Shoreditch House, transforming a constrained urban site into a contemporary hospitality development comprising boutique hotel accommodation, restaurant space and commercial facilities. The project involved the complete redevelopment of the existing building to create a new multi-storey structure extending from a sub-basement through to four upper floors, incorporating new guest accommodation, vertical circulation, modern building services and high-quality hospitality spaces.
A defining feature of the project was the construction of a substantial new structure within an exceptionally confined city-centre site. The development introduced a new reinforced concrete and composite structural frame, sub-basement and basement accommodation, lift installation, roof construction and extensive fire compartmentation, all carefully coordinated within the tight footprint between Redchurch Street and Whitby Street. The sequencing of the structural works required close coordination between the architectural, structural and specialist subcontractor teams to successfully integrate the new building with the surrounding urban environment.
Located in the heart of Shoreditch, the project presented significant logistical challenges due to restricted access, neighbouring properties and the constant activity associated with one of London's busiest hospitality districts. Construction activities, deliveries and material handling required careful planning to operate safely within the constrained site while maintaining access to surrounding businesses and public routes. The complexity of the location demanded meticulous programme management and close coordination throughout every stage of the redevelopment.
The completed development delivers a contemporary hospitality destination that combines boutique hotel accommodation with restaurant and commercial space, forming an important extension to Shoreditch House. Successfully delivered within one of London's most demanding urban environments, the project demonstrates Patterson Construction's expertise in complex structural redevelopment, constrained-site logistics and the delivery of high-quality hospitality projects in central London.
