The Challenge

A single-storey airspace extension to a mixed-use building in central London, a short walk from Great Ormond Street Hospital. The brief was to create a modern new office space at rooftop level while replacing the existing pitched roof covering and maintaining the character of the original Victorian building.

Our Approach

We constructed a new steel-framed extension with an SFS mansard structure, finished externally in VM Zinc standing seam cladding (Pigmento Brown) for a sleek, contemporary appearance. A Soprema green roof system was integrated to enhance sustainability. The existing pitched roof was replaced with new Welsh slate, preserving the building’s traditional character while improving weather performance. High-performance aluminium casement windows were installed to maximise natural light and energy efficiency throughout.

The Outcome

A high-quality new office space was delivered at rooftop level in a busy central London location, combining modern construction techniques with sensitive design detailing that respected the character of the existing building and its surroundings.
