The Challenge

The Redchurch Townhouse is a boutique hotel and restaurant for Soho House, located in the heart of Shoreditch. The site was highly constrained with a long, narrow plot nestled between two occupied buildings and required the construction of a two-storey basement and full structural steel frame with minimal disruption to neighbouring properties.

Our Approach

Acting as Principal Contractor, we excavated and constructed the two-storey basement using underpinning and contiguous piled walls to safely retain the adjacent occupied structures. We then installed the steel frame superstructure, including complex transfer structures designed to achieve a column-free ground floor layout for the restaurant space. Pre-cambered beams and stepped-back steelwork satisfied right-of-light constraints while maximising usable floor area. Works concluded with the installation of cavity drain waterproofing and pump commissioning.

The Outcome

A high-quality basement and structural steel frame was delivered on one of Shoreditch’s most constrained sites, fully retaining the adjacent occupied buildings and meeting the architectural and commercial requirements of one of London’s leading hospitality brands.
